Multi-System Backup

1. What operating systems does OnlineBackupVault run on?
OnlineBackupVault is compatible with Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista (both 32-bit and 64 bit versions), Mac OS X 10.3 or above, and most Unix/Linux based operating systems..
2. What type of internet connection do I need?
In order to use OnlineBackupVault a high speed internet connection will be needed, DSL or faster is recommended.
3. How long does it take to backup my data?
There are two main factors that impact the length of time needed to backup your data - the amount of data and speed of internet connection. With a standard DSL connection it takes about 5 hours to backup 1GB of data. The initial backup can take some time, but fortunately that backup only has to be done once!
4. Is there a way for me to send you my data?
Yes, using our DriveLoader(tm) service large backups can be sent to us on an encrypted external hard drive. This speeds up the initial backup saving time and network bandwidth.
5. What are the benefits of online backup?
Security, offsite protection, automatic backup, and easy recovery are just a few of the benefits of having online backups.
6. How long does it take to install?
Setup and configuration takes less than 10 minutes. It’s a breeze.
7. How will I know that it is working?
Starting after your first backup daily email notifications will be sent to you via email to let you know that your backups are working as expected.
8. Why does it ask if I want to backup each time I shut down my computer?
We don’t want you to miss your daily backup so we remind you before turning off you computer.
9. What is a retention policy?
During backup, if OnlineBackupVault finds that you have deleted a file (or updated a file) on your computer, it will put the corresponding deleted (or updated) file already backed up into a retention area. The retention policy setting defines how long files inside the retention area will be kept before they are automatically deleted.
10. What does the quota measure?
The quota is simply the amount of available backup storage in your OnlineBackupVault account.
11. Are my files compressed before backup?
Yes, before being backed up your files are compressed - this does two beneficial things. Firstly it speeds up the backups because less data is being transmitted, but also gives you more usable quota in your account.
12. Is it the actual amount of data on my system or the compressed amount used to calculate my quota usage?
The compressed amount is the one we use to calculate your quota usage. What this means for you is that if you have 100 GB of actual data on your computer, it could only use 60 GB of quota in your account. That gives you another 40 GB of storage to use for more backups!
13. What happens if my internet connection is down when the backup starts?
If your computer or laptop is disconnected from the internet at the scheduled backup time it will simply resume backing up as usual the next time it connects to the internet.
14. Will it slow down my computer?
No! The OnlineBackupVault software runs in the background waiting for the scheduled backup time to arrive. Once it does it will start the backup process - this should not be noticeable to you and typically run late at night.
15. What other costs are involved?
None, all that you ever pay for is the plan you select for your system.
16. What are the minimum system requirements?
For OnlineBackupVault a system with a minimum 256MB of memory or greater and 110MB of disk space is required.
